چکیده

The effect of molecular weight on the viscoelastic performance of an advanced polymer (LaRC-SI) was investigated through the use of creep compliance tests. Testing consisted of short-term isothermal creep and recovery with the creep segments performed under constant load. The tests were conducted at three temperatures below the glass transition temperature of each material with different molecular weight. Through the use of time-aging-time superposition procedures, the material constants, material master curves and aging-related parameters were evaluated at each temperature for a given molecular weight. The time-temperature superposition technique helped to describe the effect of temperature on the timescale of the viscoelastic response of each molecular weight. It was shown that the low molecular weight materials have increased creep compliance and creep compliance rate, and are more sensitive to temperature than the high molecular weight materials. Furthermore, a critical molecular weight transition was observed to occur at a weight-average molecular weight of ~25000 g/mol below which, the temperature sensitivity of the time-temperature superposition shift factor increases rapidly.

Viscoelastic behavior of Silica nanoparticle/polyimide nanocomposites using finite element approach

A three-dimensional micromechanical finite element model is developed to study the viscoelastic behavior of the silica nanoparticle/polyimide nanocomposites. The representative volume element (RVE) of the model consists of three phases including silica nanoparticle, polyimide matrix and interphase which surrounds the nanoparticle. The interphase region is created due to the interaction between ...

Dynamic Response of an Axially Moving Viscoelastic Timoshenko Beam

In this paper, the dynamic response of an axially moving viscoelastic beam with simple supports is calculated analytically based on Timoshenko theory. The beam material property is separated to shear and bulk effects. It is assumed that the beam is incompressible in bulk and viscoelastic in shear, which obeys the standard linear model with the material time derivative. The axial speed is charac...

Dynamic response determination of viscoelastic annular plates using FSDT – perturbation approach

In this paper, the transient response of a viscoelastic annular plate which has time-dependent properties is determined mathematically under dynamic transverse load. The axisymmetric conditions are considered in the problem. The viscoelastic properties obey the standard linear solid model in shear and the bulk behavior in elastic. The equations of motion are extracted using Hamilton’s principle...

Thermoelastic response of microbeams under a magnetic field rested on two-parameter viscoelastic foundation

Mechanical foundations and pavements design need a perfect prediction of the response of the material to reach a reliable and safe structure. This work deals with the thermoelastic response of microbeams rested on a two-parameter viscoelastic foundation due to a magnetic field in the context of the dual - phase lag thermoelasticity model. The solutions of the governing equations are attained us...
